Boolberry (BBR) is a decentralised, open-source cryptocurrency launched in 2014. The software behind the project is based on CryptoNote, a technology that provides much increased privacy and anonymity of transactions. Boolberry's benefits include: cryptography with ring signatures for unlinkability of transactions, separate wallet and daemon for extra security and cloud compatibility, flexible RPC-like network protocol with forward and backward capability for extended network interaction, and new ASIC-resistant hash algorithm called Wild Keccak. Boolberry enhances the CryptoNote technology to address several issues with other CryptoNote-based coins, such incomplete anonymity and block chain bloat. Original announcement.

DistroWatch.com - BitKey |

BitKey is a FREE, Debian-based live Linux distribution designed for Bitcoin users; it comes with specialist utilities to perform highly secure air-gapped Bitcoin transactions. It contains a swiss army knife of handy Bitcoin tools that support a wide range of usage models, including a few very secure ones which would otherwise be difficult to perform. The system boots into one of the three available modes: "cold-offline" - for creating a wallet and signing transactions; "cold-online" - for watching the wallet and preparing transactions; "hot-online" - standard usage but less secure as the private keys are known to the computer which is connected to the internet.

Did You Know? | A person discovering Bitcoin for the first time is likely to encounter the word consensus on a regular basis. By design, Bitcoin does not have a central authority that checks and confirms the transactions performed; instead, all the confirmations are done automatically, in blocks of transactions, by the computer nodes connecting to the Bitcoin network. Once enough nodes confirm the block, consensus is reached and the transaction block confirmed. In Bitcoin, this generally takes about 10 minutes. Although some altcoins have implemented much faster confirmation times, Bitcoin developers insist that, by design, the process of reaching consensus necessarily takes time.

Michael Ellery has announced the release of rippled 1.2.0, the latest stable version of Ripple's decentralised cryptographic ledger powered by a network of peer-to-peer servers and employing a decentralized native token commonly referred to as Ripple or XRP: "The rippled 1.2.0 release introduces the MultisignReserve amendment, which reduces the reserve requirement associated with signer lists. This release also includes incremental improvements to the code that handles offers. Furthermore, rippled now also has the ability to automatically detect transaction censorship attempts and issue warnings of increasing severity for transactions that should have been included in a closed ledger after several rounds of consensus. New and updated features: reduce the account reserve for a Multisign SignerList; improve transaction error condition handling; allow servers to automatically detect transaction censorship attempts; load validator list from file; add RPC command shard crawl; add RPC Call unit tests; grow the open ledger expected transactions quickly; avoid dispatching multiple fetch pack threads...." See the release announcement and release notes for further information. As usual, Ripple does provide any binary wallet software for download, but the source code of the latest release is available from GitHub: 1.2.0.tar.gz (7.22MB). |

About Ripple
Ripple (XRP) is a native currency of Ripple, a payment protocol, currency exchange and remittance network. Launched in 2012, Ripple's mission is to enable secure, instant and nearly free global financial transactions. It is based around a shared, public database which uses a consensus process that allows for payments, exchanges and remittance in a distributed process. Despite being owned and operated by a company (based in the USA) and being the custodians of the majority of XRP tokens, the Ripple network is decentralised and it can operate even without the enterprise behind it. In the beginning, Ripple provided both web-based and desktop wallets clients for users to download; this was however discontinued in late 2016 in favour of an official Ripple gateway at GateHub.net. Unofficial Ripple desktop wallets are also available from third-party resources.

Cryptocurrency Release: Ripple (XRP) 1.1.0 |
Rome Reginelli has announced the availability of a new version of rippled (newly referred to as "XRP Ledger"), a decentralised cryptographic ledger powered by a network of peer-to-peer servers, developed by Ripple (XRP). XRP is a public asset native to the XRP Ledger. This release brings several new and updated features: "Ripple is pleased to announce the release of XRP Ledger (rippled) version 1.1.0. The XRP Ledger version 1.1.0 release includes the DepositPreAuth Amendment, which, combined with the previously released DepositAuth Amendment, allows users to pre-authorize incoming transactions to accounts, by whitelisting sender addresses. XRP Ledger version 1.1.0 release also includes incremental improvements to several previously released features (fix1515 Amendment), deprecates support for the sign and sign_for commands from the rippled API and improves invariant checking for enhanced security. Ripple recommends that all server operators upgrade to XRP Ledger version 1.1.0 by Thursday, 2018-09-27, to ensure service continuity. New and updated features: add DepositPreAuth ledger type and transaction; increase fault tolerance and raise validation quorum to 80%,; support IPv6 for peer and RPC communications...." Cryptocurrency Release: Ripple (XRP) 1.0.1 |
Following Ripple's landmark 1.0.0 release late last month, an updated version of the daemon, which includes several bug and security fixes, has been published. Ripple (XRP) is an increasingly widely used cryptocurrency and payment protocol, while its XRP token is traded on many cryptocurrency exchanges. Rome Reginelli has announced the release on Ripple's "dev-blog": "Ripple has released rippled version 1.0.1, which includes fixes for issues identified by Ripple engineers and reported by external security researchers. These issues, when exploited, could cause a rippled instance to restart or, in some circumstances, stop executing. While these issues can result in a denial-of-service attack, none affect the integrity of the XRP Ledger and no user funds, including XRP, are at risk. If you operate a rippled server, then you should upgrade to rippled version 1.0.1 as soon as possible. If you operate a rippled server, but do not upgrade to version 1.0.1 as soon as possible, then your server may experience restarts or outages. For instructions on updating rippled on supported platforms, see Updating rippled. Change Log: bug fixes; improve JSON exception handling; fix a corner case when decoding base64 - under some corner cases, the base64 decoder would not allocate enough memory, which could result in spurious errors." The source code of the latest rippled daemon is available from GitHub: 1.0.1.tar.gz (30.2MB). |

Cryptocurrency Release: Ripple (XRP) 1.0.0 |
Ryan Young has announced the release of rippled 1.0.0, a new stable version of the project's blockchain daemon and software behind the Ripple (XRP) cryptocurrency and payment protocol. Once again, this is a mandatory upgrade for all Ripple server operators: "Today, after almost 6 years of hard work, Ripple is very pleased to announce the release of rippled version 1.0.0. The rippled v1.0.0 release includes incremental improvements to several previously released features. v1.0.0 also symbolizes the growing maturity of the software and the increased stability of the decentralized, growing network of nodes that are running the software all around the world. Moving forward, rippled will continue to use semantic versioning (MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH), to help organize and track future releases. Ripple recommends that all server operators upgrade to rippled v1.0.0 by Thursday, 2018-06-14, for service continuity. Changelog: improve history sharding to now use the shard store to satisfy ledger requests, change permessage-deflate and compress defaults; update validations on UNL change." Read the rest of the release announcement for more details and upgrade instructions. For the end users, Ripple provides an easy-to-use online wallet at GateHub.net. As always, the source code of the software is available from GitHub: 1.0.0.tar.gz (30.2MB). |

Cryptocurrency Release: Ripple (XRP) 0.90.0 |
Rome Reginelli has announced the release of rippled 0.90.0, a major new update of the blockchain daemon powering the Ripple (XRP) cryptocurrency and payment protocol. This is a mandatory upgrade for all users who run a Ripple server: "Ripple has released rippled version 0.90.0, which introduces several enhancements that improve the reliability, scalability and security of the XRP ledger. Ripple recommends that all server operators upgrade to version 0.90.0 by Thursday, 2018-03-15, for service continuity. Highlights of this release include: the DepositAuth Amendment which lets an account strictly reject any incoming money from transactions sent by other accounts; the Checks Amendment which allows users to create a deferred payment that can be canceled or cashed by its intended recipient; history Sharding which allows rippled servers to distribute historical ledger data if they agree to dedicate storage for segments of ledger history; preferred Ledger by Branch, which improves how a rippled server decides which ledger it should base future ledgers on when there are multiple candidates." See the complete release announcement for more information. The Ripple project provides an online wallet at GateHub.net. The source code of the latest rippled daemon is available from GitHub: 0.90.0.tar.gz (30.3MB). |

Cryptocurrency Release: Ripple (XRP) 0.80.2 |
Rome Reginelli has announced the release of a new version of rippled, a blockchain daemon powering the Ripple (XRP) cryptocurrency and payment protocol. This is a mandatory upgrade for all users running a rippled server: "Ripple has released rippled version 0.80.2 which improves the transaction dispatch logic of rippled, allows for more transactions to be in flight at any one time and reduces the overall resource usage of rippled. The improved transaction dispatch logic ensures that a transaction is dispatched at most once every 10 seconds, even if it is received from multiple peers during that interval. The fix should also improve load accounting on peer links, reducing the number of extraneous server-server connection drops caused by redundant transaction dispatching. If you operate a rippled server, then you should upgrade to 0.80.2 immediately." Continue to the release announcement for further details and changelog. As always, the Ripple project does not provide a desktop or mobile client, although an online wallet is available at GateHub.net. The source code for the new rippled daemon can be obtained from GitHub: 0.80.2.tar.gz (27.3MB). |

Cryptocurrency Release: Ripple (XRP) 0.80.0 |
Nik Bougalis has released an updated version of rippled, a decentralised cryptocurrency blockchain daemon written in C++ and made for the Ripple (XRP) cryptocurrency and payment protocol which was originally launched in 2012. Ripple is the third largest cryptocurrency in terms of market capitalisation (after Bitcoin and Ethereum). The new release implements a number of improvements: "The rippled 0.80.0 release introduces several enhancements that improve the reliability, scalability and security of the XRP Ledger. The SortedDirectories amendment, which allows the entries stored within a page to be sorted, and corrects a technical flaw that could, in some edge cases, prevent an empty intermediate page from being deleted. Changes to the UNL and quorum rules: use a fixed-size UNL if the total listed validators are below threshold; ensure a quorum of 0 cannot be configured; set a quorum to provide Byzantine fault tolerance until a threshold of total validators is exceeded, at which time the quorum is 80%." Read the rest of the release notes for a complete list of changes. Unlike most other cryptocurrencies, Ripple does not provide desktop wallet clients (although some third parties do), only an online wallet at GateHub.net. However, the source code for the rippled daemon is available for download from GitHub: 0.80.0.tar.gz (27.3MB). |
