Worldcoin (WDC) is a decentralised open-source digital currency secured by cryptography. Forked from Bitcoin in 2013, the project's primary goal is to create a business-friendly payment system that would become the choice for merchants and consumers for everyday transactions. Worldcoin prides itself for having very fast transaction speeds, fully confirmed in less than 60 seconds. The coin's creators hope to sponsor world-changing projects, starting with an installation of a Worldcoin community-sponsored clean water well in Kenya. Original announcement.

BitKey is a FREE, Debian-based live Linux distribution designed for Bitcoin users; it comes with specialist utilities to perform highly secure air-gapped Bitcoin transactions. It contains a swiss army knife of handy Bitcoin tools that support a wide range of usage models, including a few very secure ones which would otherwise be difficult to perform. The system boots into one of the three available modes: "cold-offline" - for creating a wallet and signing transactions; "cold-online" - for watching the wallet and preparing transactions; "hot-online" - standard usage but less secure as the private keys are known to the computer which is connected to the internet.

| Did You Know? | The Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism was developed as a response to (what many viewed as) a major deficiency of Bitcoin and its Proof-of-Work (PoW) mechanism - the environmental damage caused by the mining of bitcoins. In contrast to Bitcoin's PoW, PoS does not require miners to do any energy-intensive computations to process transactions. The PoS system relies on existing holders of the currency to secure the blockchain by keeping their wallets open for the staking process to take place. As such, PoS cryptocurrencies are much more energy-efficient and provide faster transaction confirmations. However, the PoS mechanism is not perfect either; according to some critics, the protocol's design (which rewards "stakers" with interest payments) encourages coin hoarding, while security has also been questioned, especially in cryptocurrencies with a limited number of users and stakers.

NEW • Cryptocurrency Release: Bitcoin (BTC) 0.16.1 |

1 BTC6,212 USD |
Version 0.16.1 of Bitcoin (BTC) Core, the software application behind the world's most popular cryptocurrency, has been released. Although it's the first update in nearly four month, the changelog lists only one notable change - the removal of the option for miners to limit block sizes: "Bitcoin Core version 0.16.1 is now available. This is a new minor version release, with various bug fixes as well as updated translations. Notable change: the '-blockmaxsize' option for miners to limit their blocks' sizes was deprecated in version 0.15.1, and has now been removed; miners should use the '-blockmaxweight' option if they want to limit the weight of their blocks' weights. Changelog: several transaction standardness rules; remove blockmaxsize option; bug fix - ensure consistency of m_failed_blocks after reconsiderblock; fix some concurrency issues in ActivateBestChain(); limit the number of IPs addrman learns from each DNS seeder; exit SyncMetaData if there are no transactions to sync...." NEW • Cryptocurrency Release: Ripple (XRP) 1.0.1 |

7,700 satoshi
|
Following Ripple's landmark 1.0.0 release late last month, an updated version of the daemon, which includes several bug and security fixes, has been published. Ripple (XRP) is an increasingly widely used cryptocurrency and payment protocol, while its XRP token is traded on many cryptocurrency exchanges. Rome Reginelli has announced the release on Ripple's "dev-blog": "Ripple has released rippled version 1.0.1, which includes fixes for issues identified by Ripple engineers and reported by external security researchers. These issues, when exploited, could cause a rippled instance to restart or, in some circumstances, stop executing. While these issues can result in a denial-of-service attack, none affect the integrity of the XRP Ledger and no user funds, including XRP, are at risk. If you operate a rippled server, then you should upgrade to rippled version 1.0.1 as soon as possible. If you operate a rippled server, but do not upgrade to version 1.0.1 as soon as possible, then your server may experience restarts or outages. For instructions on updating rippled on supported platforms, see Updating rippled. Change Log: bug fixes; improve JSON exception handling; fix a corner case when decoding base64 - under some corner cases, the base64 decoder would not allocate enough memory, which could result in spurious errors." The source code of the latest rippled daemon is available from GitHub: 1.0.1.tar.gz (30.2MB). |

Luke Champine has announced the release of Sia (SC) 1.3.3, a minor point release of the software application that powers Sia's decentralised storage service which uses the proof-of-work Siacoin cryptocurrency to reward users providing hard disk capacity: "Sia v1.3.3. This is a patch release that adds functionality to the renter and improves its performance. @ChrisSchinnerl and our new employee @MSevey implemented HTTP file streaming, allowing you to stream videos and other content directly from Sia hosts. They also added rate limiting, so you can prevent Sia from hogging all your bandwidth. @ChrisSchinnerl also moved contract data out of RAM and fixed a memory leak, resulting in greatly reduced memory usage. And as always, we made tons of smaller bug fixes. Contributor @nielscastien added a new API endpoint for hosts that reports information about contracts formed with renters. I'm sure this will be widely appreciated by users who want more insight into their host's behavior." Here are the brief release notes as published on the project's GitHub pages. Marek Franciszkiewicz has announced the release of Brass Golem 0.16.0, a new version of the software behind the Golem (GNT) cryptocurrency token issued on the Ethereum network. The project's goal is to build a global, open-sourced and decentralised supercomputer that would provide a sharing economy of computing power where anyone can make money "renting out" computers. This version is still labeled as a "beta" build: "Brass Golem beta 0.16.0. Changelog: different, optimized cryptographic methods for message signing and serializing; new additional settings for choosing providers based on their performance; updated Terms of Use; possibility to define the number of samples per pixel in Blender scenes; improved verification metrics for comparing images; more friendly CLI options results, eg. 'golemcli res show' or 'golemcli task subtasks'; modified runtime environment configurations; GNT is converted to GNTB as soon as possible - in previous versions, GNT was automatically converted to GNTB when it was necessary, ie. when a user was trying to add a new task, but from now on, we'll be doing the conversion earlier, right when we have enough ETH to cover the gas price; bug fixes and optimizations." Here are the brief release notes as published on the project's GitHub page. Download: golem-0.16.0-linux.tar.gz (171MB), golem-0.16.0-macOS.tar.gz (88.9MB), golem-0.16.0-windows.exe (580MB). |
Reuben Yap has announced the release of Zcoin (XZC) 0.13.6.3, the latest stable build of the software wallet for the project's proof-of-work (Lyra2) cryptocurrency with strong privacy and transaction anonymity features. This version is a "highly recommended update": "Zcoin 'French Drop' v0.13.6.3. Highly recommended update (even for 13.6.1 and 13.6.2 users) for local wallets and mining pools. Alternative to updating will be a re-index. Mandatory upgrade for Znodes to avoid any disruptions (though you can stick to 13.6.2 if you perform a re-index). Failure to update to 13.6.3 may result in stuck wallets which can be cured by a re-index, though it will be easier to update to this version. Before anything, back up your wallet.dat (File, Backup Wallet), ideally in a different drive. Changelog: enables Zerocoin spend-to-third-party feature; resolves database issues where wallets can be stuck on certain Zerocoin spends...." |
Ryan Young has announced the release of rippled 1.0.0, a new stable version of the project's blockchain daemon and software behind the Ripple (XRP) cryptocurrency and payment protocol. Once again, this is a mandatory upgrade for all Ripple server operators: "Today, after almost 6 years of hard work, Ripple is very pleased to announce the release of rippled version 1.0.0. The rippled v1.0.0 release includes incremental improvements to several previously released features. v1.0.0 also symbolizes the growing maturity of the software and the increased stability of the decentralized, growing network of nodes that are running the software all around the world. Moving forward, rippled will continue to use semantic versioning (MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH), to help organize and track future releases. Ripple recommends that all server operators upgrade to rippled v1.0.0 by Thursday, 2018-06-14, for service continuity. Changelog: improve history sharding to now use the shard store to satisfy ledger requests, change permessage-deflate and compress defaults; update validations on UNL change." |
Cardano (ADA), a project developing a decentralised platform that allows complex, programmable transfers of value, has updated its software. The Cardano Settlement Layer (SL) now stands at vesion 1.2.0, while the graphical software client called "Daedalus", is at version 0.10.0. From the Daedalus release notes: "Paper wallets allow users to store their funds securely offline. Paper wallet certificates can now be generated in Daedalus. They contain a 27-word recovery phrase, of which the first 18 words are printed automatically on the certificate and the remaining 9 words the user writes by hand. This improves security because the printed certificate, which could be cached by the printer or compromised in some other way, does not include everything needed to restore the wallet. The wallet from the certificate is initially empty when it is created and users can send funds to it using the wallet address printed on the certificate." See also the Cardano SL release notes for further details. The Daedalus wallet is available for macOS and Windows: daedalus-0.10.0-cardano-sl-dev.1548-mainnet-macos.pkg (138MB), daedalus-0.10.0-cardano-sl-1.2.0.6831.0-mainnet-windows.exe (148MB). NEW • Cryptocurrency Release: Burstcoin (BURST) 2.2.1 |

240 satoshi
|
Cryptocurrency Release: Burstcoin (BURST) 2.2.1^Tom Créance has announced the release of Burst Reference Software 2.2.1, an updated version of the software powering the Burstcoin (BURST) cryptocurrency and its network. Burstcoin, forked from Nxt in August 2014, is written in Java, but it uses a consensus called "proof of capacity" (PoC) which generates tokens using the miners' unused hard drive space, rather than their processors or graphics cards. This hard-fork updates the consensus mechanism and introduces larger block size: "Burst Reference Software 2.2.0. First PoCC-initiated hard-fork release. This wallet will hard fork at block height 500,000 with the following features: up to 4 times larger block size; dynamic fees; multi-out payments; from block height 502,000, the wallet will also switch to PoC2 nonce validation. After the hard fork, the effective transaction capacity of this wallet will be up to 80 times that of the previous 2.0 version." This brief release announcement, published on 29 May, is for version 2.2.0, although the project updated the software client to version 2.2.1 (citing minor bug fixes) one day later. As usual, the Burst Reference Client is provided as a small, cross-platform (Linux, macOS and Windows) command-line software client, with the graphical wallet made available in any Java-enabled web browser using the "localhost:8125" address. Download the new Burst version from here: burstcoin-2.2.1.zip (20.5MB). The source code link: 2.2.1.tar.gz (2.48MB). |
